Fair warning, I get pretty in depth for this review. I initially wrote my thoughts down the night after its release, so I had a lot of thoughts. I really enjoyed his first album, so I was very excited for his second. Let's get into it.
Golden: Okay, so album opener, lots to say on this song. To put it simply, it slaps. Hard. Like the opening music really pulls you in, and when his background vocals come in its just simply the best. Also the way he says golden is just the best. The tune of this entire song is just really pleasing to me. I think he said it's a song that you would play while you’re driving along the coast, and I couldn’t think of a more perfect way to put it. I really just want to drive to the beach in the summertime blasting this song in the car with my friends. And the chorus!! Fantastic. I’m so mad that Mr. Styles really had to make the first song slap this hard. Only thing “bad” I can say is the bridge is kind of boring, but honestly it’s not. What a song.
Watermelon Sugar: This song builds and it’s too much to handle. Like, lyrically, it’s really nothing special. Besides the whole “watermelon sugar” part it’s not too deep. But the song just gets louder and louder and how could you not just scream along to the lyrics, you know. And you know I’m a sucker for horns and there are horns in this biddy. What is this song even about? We don't need to get into it. I don't even care, it's so good I can’t focus on that.
Adore You: I really like the beginning of this song. The lyrics are also very good. The chorus is repetitive and not my favorite, so this song isn’t ranked very high for me. That being said, I still really like this song a lot. The bridge is also boring in this one. Reminds me of Golden’s bridge.
Lights Up: Best part of this song is the background music. Especially the guitar at the beginning. Other than that I never quite vibed very hard with this song when it came out. I liked what it represented, new Harry Styles music. I think what really kills it for me is the pre chorus, “All the lights couldn’t put out the dark…” But those are also the best lyrics in the song. That’s all I really got to say about that.
Cherry: I really fump with this song. It’s depressing but still a bop. The guitar makes me feel like I’m in Matilda, don’t ask me why. The way Mr. Styles’ voice sounds in this song is just so good. The lyrics are very honest, which I appreciate because honest lyrics make breakup songs super good. It’s not just like “I’m sad.” It’s like “I know me being sad isn’t fair and I’m being selfish.” Like it’s so mature and immature at the same time. The song is just so pretty. Like a lullaby. And the lyrics about the “his parents’ gallery”!! How specific!! I don’t fump with the outro because I am impatient and rarely like outros so that’s on me.
Falling: This song is just plain brutal. Another fantastic song by Mr. Styles. If I were ranking these songs based only on lyrical content this song would be very high. I don’t really vibe with song. Maybe if it weren’t thrown in with all these sonically complex songs I’d appreciate the tune more. Also, I’m listening to it right now as I’m typing this and I just realized it sounds like it could be by The Fray. So yeah. This song is actually really good and I can’t wait to cry to it during my next anxiety attack.
To Be So Lonely: The beginning of this song is so quirky. And I love the verses. They’re so fun and I just kinda bounce to them. And then the chorus hits and I realize that I really really like this song. I think I just really like how he says “Don’t call me baby again.” because he says “baby” really fast. But tell me if you agree, this is the kind of song that you just kinda sway and bounce side to side to. I think the lyrics hit very hard in this song so I will be getting in my feels.
She: I know I previously stated that I don’t like outros but this song is the exception. It has a long outro but it’s so interesting that I listened to the whole thing and never got bored. Anyways, this song is the sequel to Woman. I think it’s better than Woman, and I really like Woman. The guitar between the chorus and second verse reminds me of something from Lana Del Rey, so I really like that. I also feel like this song would make for a fantastic ~trip~. I really like how this song tells a story too.
Sunflower, Vol. 6: I want to know where volumes 1-5 are. This song starts out okay, but then it gets really good. I really vibe with this one. It’s just a happy song and I absolutely love happy songs. The guitar or whatever between the lyrics “Out of this shade (sunflower, sunflower)” and “Your flowers just died” might be my favorite part of the song. I am very thankful that this song exists. It was needed.
Canyon Moon: Mr. Styles took a Vampire Weekend song and added his lil touch and Canyon Moon was born. This is another happy sounding song. Tubs said that it sounds like a summer camp song and I agree hard. No one needed this song but it is so important. I cannot emphasize how important it is. Just so important. AND WHEN IT WHISTLES I can’t believe it. I feel like I’m on Total Drama Island during one of the heartwarming parts of the show.
Treat People With Kindness: What a surprise. This song is weird but somehow is still fantastic. Obviously it has a good message that I stand by. But more so this song has a vibe that is just so magnetic and happy. Like you cannot be mad if this song comes on. Also listening to this song is the equivalent of going to church. Mr. Styles has changed my ways.
Fine Line: At first I did not like this song. The chorus is repetitive and Mr. Styles stays in his head voice the whole time, which was boring to me. I’ve since changed my mind. The guitar is beautiful. The lyrics are lowkey painful. More than Falling if you ask me. This is my ideal “crying at night” song. It’s not completely sad, but it’s that perfect mix of hopeful sounding but still hopeless and lost. So, turns out I’m actually very thankful for the length of this song and its repetition because I think my crying songs are long and predictable. This song will probably end up pretty high in my ranking.

This album was very good. I'm not surprised, but I'm very happy about it. Top tracks for me would have to be To Be So Lonely and Fine Line and also maybe Sunflower, Vol. 6. They really make me happy and sad. This album scores a 7.96/10, which is pretty high. And that's because it's special. bye
