Lana’s third project and she really switched things up. This album has a lot of rock influence. Like a lot. It’s very good, but I will say you have to be in a certain headspace for it. Let’s get into it.
Cruel World: This song is so perfect for a mental breakdown/a spiraling out of control moment. I love this song, it’s just a little too long. I don’t think we need the last chorus. Especially if she isn’t gonna add anything special to it. The lyrics are haunting and her voice. Bruh her voice on this entire album is just crazy. I can’t believe it. This is such a good intro because it really introduces the mood to this album.
Ultraviolence: This song is so classic. It’s sad but powerful. And it’s so beautiful. Not a lot of songs talk about abuse like this. The bridge to this song is just something else. This whole song is so depressing and just sends me somewhere else.
Shades of Cool: This song is amazing. She’s so sassy in it, but it’s still so sad. She’s describing her man in such a devout way but also it’s devastating. And it tells such a good story. You can picture it all. Her vocals in this song are so special. I feel my soul is rising during the chorus. And when she comes in with that breakdown for the bridge. I just go crazy.
Brooklyn Baby: This is one of my most favorite songs of all time. I could listen to it on repeat for the rest of my life. It makes me feel every emotion. It makes me nostalgic and hopeful. The guitar in this song is so beautiful. I wish every song sounded like this song. This song is so special to me. It’s like my baby and if I ever heard it live I think I would just die right there.
West Coast: This song is super cool. The tempo change is shocking the first time you listen but it’s amazing. This is a cool summer song and I love it.
Sad Girl: Her voice is great in this song. It’s not my favorite song. I think I’m just not in love with the verses. However, the chorus and the bridge are fantastic. The story of this song is super intriguing. It really brings you to a different moment. But honestly, this whole album does that.
Pretty When You Cry: This song is so depressing. I know I keep saying that but it’s true. I love this song. The lyrics are pretty hurtful. Again, this song makes you feel like you’re living in that moment. I love how this song starts off pretty tame, but when we get to the end it just goes crazy. Like full breakdown mode. A fantastic crying song.
Money Power Glory: This is a bad bitch song. I like everything about this song except the second half of the chorus. But I can deal with it. I don’t hate this song at all though. I think it’s underrated and it’s such a mood.
Fucked My Way Up To The Top: In order to respect this song you have to know she isn’t the one who fucked her way up to the top. She’s most likely talking about Lady Gaga and I love that drama. This song is so cool.
Old Money: Yo this song makes me feel something. It makes me really emotional. She’s really just admitting that even though her relationship with this man has been over for a minute she would still drop everything and see him if he asked her to. Like my heart is so crushed.
The Other Woman: This song is a cover, but it’s so well done. And it’s very different from the original. It’s pretty tragic, man.
Black Beauty: This song is also really beautiful and sad. Here she sings about a lover who is dark and depressing and she tries so hard to help him see the beauty in things, but it never works. She doesn’t know what to do about it. Another soul ascending type track.
Guns and Roses: This is the only song I don’t really like on this album. No one really does. It’s not that bad. The verse is promising and the story is intriguing. However, sonically, it is not beautiful or interesting. It’s also pretty repetitive. I always skip this song.
Florida Kilos: Here’s a fun party song about cocaine. If I was at a yacht party in Florida this would be my go-to song. This is a good summertime song. Not depressing either, which is nice.
Is This Happiness: Back to depressing. This is another one of my most favorites off the record. The piano is so pretty. She sounds so tired in this song. She’s really just questioning if the situation she’s in right now is happiness or not. And that just really sends me because that’s a lot of self reflection. Also the strings in this song. Perfect. This is not a soul ascending song. This is a “lay down in the dirt and sink down into the earth and never be seen again” song.

This album is very important to me. It’s very sad and depressing, which is nice. It’s good to have stuff like that sometimes. I love the vivid imagery she creates with her lyrics and with her voice. It makes you feel as if you have gone through it with her. I gave it a 9.47/10. It’s one of my most favorite albums. bye
