This is Lana’s second project. It’s an EP, but it was long enough for me to rate like an album. So that’s good. Let’s get into it.
Ride: This is such an amazing, iconic, beautiful song. It evokes such strong emotions from me that I really don’t understand. This is a song to blast in the car if you’re feeling something and you don’t know what. It makes me want to run away and live in the desert and also in the rain.
American: I love this song because her voice is so powerful in it. The high notes she hits. I can’t believe it. And the lyrics. Makes you travel back in time. She talks about Elvis and Bruce Springsteen and it makes me want to live in the era. I think it’s cute that at this time she still thought highly of America.
Cola: The most iconic opening line of a song. You can’t change my mind. I don’t know if it sets the proper tone for the actual meaning behind the song, but it’s iconic and hilarious, so I’ll let it slide. This just might be the ultimate sugar baby song. It makes me so sad that she won’t sing it live anymore.
Body Electric: I really like how this song builds. It’s kind of scary. It makes me feel like I’m somewhere I shouldn’t be. Somewhere forbidden. She mixes biblical figures with hard partying tactics and it’s really confusing but really well done.
Blue Velvet: This is a beautiful cover. It’s not my favorite because it doesn’t really fit into the rest of the EP.
Gods & Monsters: This is iconic. I love how freeing this song feels. And her mentions of the garden of eden are haunting. This song makes me feel like how Ride makes me feel.
Yayo: This is my favorite song off the project. It’s so simple. It’s a lot like how Video Games sounds in comparison to all of Born to Die. It’s stripped, but the vocals are astounding. And the story she tells breaks your heart, but is also so romantic. She’s begging her lover to drive them to Vegas and get them married so she doesn’t have to live in the trailer park anymore. It’s so beautiful.
Bel Air: This is what plays when you enter heaven. The piano is so beautiful. The chorus is angelic. It sounds like a love song, but she mentions violence, so it’s still a sad track.
Burning Desire: This song gets me excited because the intro music, especially the piano, sounds so promising. But it’s a really boring song. She stays in her low voice the whole time. The chorus is very repetitive. It’s just not my cup of tea.
Final Ranking:
Yayo
Ride
American
Gods & Monsters
Cola
Body Electric
Bel Air
Blue Velvet
Burning Desire
This is a really good project. There's a lot of religious themes in it, which is very interesting. It’s also very cinematic. I gave it an 8.78/10 because I think it’s very good. bye
