Chemtrails Over the Country Club by Lana Del Rey Review

Updated: May 31, 2022

Lana’s newest album!! Very happy about this.

White Dress: Hi. Holy moly. At first I was put off because why is she singing like that. But it’s such an effective way to sing this song. It carries such emotion. This song is so personal and gorgeous. And it really makes me feel like sitting in my front yard in a foldout chair this summer. I love The White Stripes & Kings of Leon references. Feels real. I also love the outro. “Maybe I was better off.” Not a new subject for her, but it feels way more honest here. Might be her best intro to date.

Chemtrails Over the Country Club: I love this song! She’s an astrology queen. I absolutely love how she is romanticizing normality. “Washing my hair, doing the laundry, late night tv, I want you only.” It’s so happy and sad at the same time. I’ve been waiting for this song. And the drums at the end! Perfection.

Tulsa Jesus Freak: The chorus is catchy and the white hot forever part is pretty haunting. I don’t love the verses. I think the vocal effects are a bit much. It’s still a pretty fabulous song. Don’t forget it.

Let Me Love You Like a Woman: I think her voice sounds so beautiful on this track. And the verses are super good. I think it’s so pretty how badly she wants this guy to come with her. In the second verse she says “I guess I could manage if you stay, It's just if you do I can't see myself having any fun.” It’s such an honest line. I do think the chorus is boring. That’s the downfall of this song.

Wild at Heart: I could cry. This song is so pretty and sweet. So sweet. “I love you lots like polka dots” Are you kidding me?? And when the chorus picks up! She samples How to disappear and that’s my go to NFR song. She’s hot for doing that.

Dark But Just a Game: This song is amazing. She sounds so cool. Like she knows something we don’t, which she totally does. I love how the production strips back on the chorus. Makes it sound old timey. “Don’t even want what's mine, much less the fame.” Great line.

Not All Who Wander Are Lost: This song is so happy to me. I think I could float away to this song. It’s message is simple but beautiful.

Yosemite: This song was for Lust for Life but it was scrapped because it was too happy. That’s funny. I like the lyrics of this song. Some people say it’s too simple but I think sometimes simplicity carries a deeper message.

Breaking Up Slowly: I’m not sure why the girl featured on this track isn’t in the title. It really threw me off first listen. Her voice is good. Sounds nice with Lana’s. I like Lana’s verse about George getting arrested. I think this song can be a little boring because the tune is the same the entire time. It’s a good track, but it doesn’t stand out.

Dance Till We Die: Gorgeous song. I love the saxophone. I think that’s what it is. What I really need to talk about is the bridge. She comes out of nowhere. And it’s fabulous. You gotta hear it.

For Free: Ok, this is a cover. I think the song itself is very beautiful and I like the lyrics a lot. And thematically it fits into the album very well. I also love the pretty piano in the background. Obviously Lana sounds great. I love Zella Day’s voice too. But I can’t get on board with Weyes Blood. It wasn’t for me.

Final Ranking:

I think this album is fabulous. I really like how she’s living a “normal life” now. Talking about Nebraska and Arkansas and doing the laundry. I’m obsessed with it. Overall this album gets an 8.86/10. bye
