Notes On A Conditional Form by The 1975 Album Review

Updated: Jan 22, 2021

Okay, so The 1975 just released their new album, Notes On A Conditional Form, the other day, and I've been listening to them for a while now so I gave it a listen. Now, the way I do these reviews is I go track by track and decide whether I like the song or not. After all that I'll go back and determine my final rating of the track and give my final thoughts as well.

The 1975: Greta the eco god is talking with pretty music behind her. Honestly, this would be such good sleeping music. I’m not gonna be playing this song on repeat lol, but I respect it and honestly it’s really calming. Usually this song is about something inappropriate that I won't be describing here, so I’m glad they switched it up. Greta Thunberg. That’s her name.

People: This song really caught me off guard first listen. It’s so good, though. I love it. I love his screaming, and the lyrics are so smart. Like go off Matty. It’s so cool.

The End (Music For Cars): Very pretty music. That’s all I can say. I won’t be playing this song a lot unless I need a good instrumental.

Frail State of Mind: Relatable lyrics man. I feel like I’m about to fall apart. I don’t really like this song. It’s not very interesting to me.

Streaming: Another instrumental. They really like these. I don’t really get the appeal, but that’s okay.

The Birthday Party: This song is cool. The lyrics are very interesting and kind of sweet? Kind of. I like this song. It’s calming, but there’s a lot to it.

Yeah I Know: Kind of fun to sing along to, but it’s not for me.

Then Because She Goes: This was a fun song. It reminds me of early 2000s music. It’s a good vibe. Not my most favorite because the lyrics aren’t that interesting to me.

Jesus Christ 2005 God Bless America: Wow what a title. This is a really pretty song. I can’t really relate too much to it, but I think it’s a well written and pretty song. Also who is the girl? Who was singing lol?

Roadkill: Wow I liked this song a lot. It was fun. Lyrics are always so interesting. They’re so honest and sometimes too much, but in general really good.

Me & You Together Song: I also love this song. It’s so cute. And again it is very early 2000s alt rock vibes. I’m really liking it.

I Think There's Something You Should Know: This song really ended up being good. I was not vibing at first, but after the long ass instrumental in the middle it got pretty good. I enjoyed it and I think I’ll enjoy it more when I listen again.

Nothing Revealed / Everything Denied: This song is kind of it. I love the piano. It’s so jazzy. I’m getting very strong If I Believe You vibes and I’m liking it. I really enjoyed this song.

Tonight (I Wish I Was Your Boy): This is nice. It’s a nice song. I don’t think it’s a favorite. It doesn’t flow right for me. No disrespect. It’s still good.

Shiny Collarbone: Here’s another instrumental/interlude. It’s kind of fun. It has a nice beat. You could maybe hear it in a club. Honestly, I’m vibing to it.

If You're Too Shy (Let Me Know): Some strong 80s vibes here. I’m liking it. This is such a fun song. And omg saxophone. Does he know how I feel about this? This is such a good song.

Playing On My Mind: This was cute. I love the lyrics. He gets so specific, yet it’s still relatable. And you can really hear his “voice.” I like that it was a simple song regarding the formatting. Easily identifiable verses, a chorus, and a bridge. It’s nice to have that sometimes.

Having No Head: It is in my opinion that albums shouldn’t have more than two instrumentals. Unless it’s an album in a very specific niche. Especially when the instrumentals aren’t even that impressive or significant in comparison to other instrumentals. Also, this one is so long.

What Should I Say: I didn’t like it. The autotune is not for me. I liked the background music, though. That’s about all I can say.

Bagsy Not In Net: I can get behind this song. It’s calming and short. The music is pretty. Not into the vocals, but they’re not horrible. I really like strings.

Don't Worry: I’m gonna cry. This song is so sweet. I wish the vocals were more raw. I think the effects take away from the sentiments. But I still think this song is cute. I love the piano.

Guys: Another cute song, but it’s about his bandmates. That is so cute. I love it so much. It could be in a 2000s teen movie. Wow. Pretty tame, though.

Alright, so my final rating of this song is a 5.30/10. This album was really long and I'm not really here for all the instrumentals. I think they had four. Wow. There were some really good tracks, my favorites being People, Me & You Together Song, Playing On My Mind, and Roadkill. I wish that more of the album sounded like People, because that song is sickening. That's all I really have to say. bye
