I really like this band. This album was my first introduction to them for the most part. When it came out my dad would have it on repeat every time we were in the car. It’s very good. Let’s get into it.
Spiderhead: This song is awesome. Seriously. Every part of this song is amazing. Every part. And when they do the lil switch up right at the end. I could die.
Come a Little Closer: This is a classic. I think I definitely underrated this song, but I love it every time I hear it. The music in it is so good. And they do a good job at changing up the chorus ever so slightly, so it doesn’t get boring. Great song.
Telescope: This makes me emotional. I love how soft it is at the beginning. It’s pretty and so are the lyrics. It paints a picture in my mind. But again, they’re so good at keeping songs from getting boring, because they switch it up after the second chorus. The bridge goes so hard and it leads into the chorus that they’re now rocking out to. Wow.
It's Just Forever: Not my favorite. I like the idea of it. It’s just a lot for me. And I don’t think I like the feature. But still a good song.
Take It Or Leave It: This song is so different from other songs. I think it has a 70s vibe, I’m not sure though. All I know is that it’s really good. The chorus is so funky, for lack of a better word. It switches up so much, but still sounds so good.
Halo: Favorite off the album. I love this whole song. I love it so much. I wish I could hear it live. It’s just so iconic to me. It’s the perfect length, and the chorus is just so good.
Black Widow: I could never get into this song. I can’t really figure out why, but it’s never been my favorite. I don’t think the chorus is strong enough. I do like the horns in the background, though. I don’t think it’s bad though. I appreciate the effort and like the concept.
Hypocrite: Now this song has all the horns. I love it. It really builds. I also love the piano in this song. There’s definitely underlying tones of jazz throughout this track.
Teeth: Again, this song is a lot for me. Honestly, you can make fun of me if you want, but I think it’s too loud. I used to not like it at all, but I think seeing it live changed me. I think I only want to hear this song live. Never through my headphones because that’s asking for hearing loss.
Cigarette Daydreams: Who doesn’t like this song? Like, honestly, it’s such a good song. It’s so beautiful. This is on the list of songs I wish were written about me. I love this song. It’s so special. It’s so timeless. And it makes me want to cry.
Final Ranking:
Halo
Cigarette Daydreams
Spiderhead
Come a Little Closer
Take It Or Leave It
Telescope
Hypocrite
It’s Just Forever
Teeth
Black Widow
This album gets an 8.65/10. It’s pretty short, only 10 songs, but every song is worth a listen. The lyrics are great, the sound is really cool, and it’s pretty cohesive. Should’ve won the Grammy, but whatever. bye
