My dad plays this all the time when he washes the dishes. This album is good and underrated. Here's my review.
The First Single (You Know Me): This song is so good. When I was little I thought it was a girl singing. I was wrong. I’m not sure what I was thinking because this is definitely a boy. Sure, his voice is high, but so is Charlie Puth’s and I never was confused about that. I like this song because it sounds pretty happy, but there are some sad undertones.
Wait, Wait, Wait: I like this song. I like how he says that this song will be the last sound you hear as your eyes close. I don’t understand completely what that means, and it kind of freaks me out. I like it, though. He also talks about how he’s afraid that fame has changed him. The chorus is pretty catchy, too.
Give It Up: I love this song. It reminds me of my childhood. It’s so personal. I could never relate to it fully. I don’t think anyone can, except for the singer. It makes me pretty sad. It’s about his childhood friends giving up on the dream. He’s the only one who really made it. He misses those friends, though.
Tie the Rope: This song is so funny to me. He’s seriously like “tie the rope and kick the chair and leave me hanging there.” This is a good breakup song. This girl won’t do anything to help him. It’s like Grenade lol.
Tune Out: This song makes me happy. It’s such a simple, but fantastic, song. It paints such a good picture in my head. Honestly, all it’s really about is listening to the radio while sitting in traffic with your lover. Also the lyric “No one I know is more depressing than me” really gets me. I feel like this is a pretty relatable song. We’ve all sat in a hot car for too long listening to the same songs on repeat.
I'm Ready, I Am: The way this song is is so interesting to me. The arrangement of verses and the chorus and whatever else is fun. Again, this song sounds kind of happy, but the lyrics are sad. “I feel like I’ve been losing you…”
On Your Porch: This song gets me good. It makes me so sad. It’s actually got a cheerful message, but the acoustic guitar always gets me, man. Again, it paints such a good picture in my head. The details in the lyrics. I think what gets me the most is him talking about his dad. His dad was sick, his mom cared for him and nursed him back to life. But he was scared that he would have to say goodbye to his dad, so he ran away when things got tough. That’s deep.
Sore Thumb: This is a breakup song. He’s pretty mad about it. His lyrics are harsh. The song is good and catchy.
A Mess to Be Made: It’s interesting that this song follows the breakup song. I don’t know if it’s about the same girl, but it would kind of make sense. Here he is talking about his relationship with her, and how she often leaves after they fight. He ends up missing her and she eventually comes back. She’s the only reason why he stays in California.
Let's Make This Moment a Crime: The chorus is so fucking good. I just want to shout it. Seriously, super catchy, too. Every song on this album is amazing.
Career Day: This is another bummer. Kind of. I think the part that bums me out is how his girlfriend is pretty unsupportive of his career, or his attempt at one. The lyrics in general are really good. The outro might be a little bit too long for my taste. I like the outro a lot. It’s just ridiculously long.
A Save Situation: This is my favorite song on the album. It’s pretty short, but I think it’s so good. It makes me feel something I don’t understand. I like how he sings about Arizona. He’s like “That’s my real home and I hate my new home.” I think the music in this song is so pretty.
