I have never listened to a Dula Peep album before. I only knew the singles. But Don't Start Now really did it for me, and I really like her hair, so I decided to give it a listen. Let's get into it.
Future Nostalgia: This was an amazing album opener. Super 80s sound, I think that’s the theme of the album maybe. I love how she talks through the verses. Go girl, give us nothing. But for real this song is itty.
Don't Start Now: I already loved this song. I love it so much. Fantastic.
Cool: I like this song but it’s not my favorite. Her voice is boring on the track. Except during the bridge when she sings in her lower register. That was so pretty. The music in the song was cool too.
Physical: This song isn’t that good. It’s kinda childish and the lyrics are super basic. I don’t like it.
Levitating: I do, however, like this song. A lot. It’s not very deep, but it’s really fun. I really like the pre chorus. It’s definitely my favorite part.
Pretty Please: At first I wasn’t on board with this song, but now it has been stuck in my head all week. It really gets better and better as you listen to it. So it’s one of my favorites now.
Hallucinate: It’s a no for me. It’s boring. Vocals are good, but nothing special.
Love Again: Miss Lipa really sampled Your Woman by White Town. What a queen. This song is so good. Her vocals really do it to you on this track. Your Woman is a late 90s alternative hit, but I guess you can put it on your 80s inspired album.
Break My Heart: I don’t like the flow of this song or the chorus. It kinda sounds like it’s sampling Another One Bites the Dust but I could be wrong about this one.
Good in Bed: This is a fun song. Not the best, lyrics aren’t complicated or deep at all. Also reminds me of Taylor Swift’s “Stay Stay Stay” except this one is about sex. Both songs are childish and rely on repetition to make “rhymes.” Both songs aren’t very good either. It was a fun song, though. It was added to my playlist because I can see myself dancing to it in the future.
Boys Will Be Boys: This has a good message. It’s like bruh boys can’t act like that. It calls them out. Good ending, I think, doesn’t fit with the album at all, though. Just slapped it on the end to be woke I guess.
Final Ranking:
Love Again
Pretty Please
Levitating
Don’t Start Now
Break My Heart
Future Nostalgia
Physical
Good In Bed
Boys Will Be Boys
Cool
Hallucinate
I think Miss Lipa put out a really good pop record. My favorites were Levitating, Pretty Please, and Love Again. This album gets a score of 8.05/10. I respect her and her hair a lot. bye
