Fetch The Bolt Cutters by Fiona Apple Review

Updated: Apr 5, 2021

I am nervous about this album. I heard Shameika on the radio and I was like oh word, but also it was very different. I also know this album was good enough to score a 10 from Pitchfork, which is special or something. So I thought I’d listen to it. I have no idea about Miss Fiona, but I hope I like her. Let’s get into it.

I Want You To Love Me: A lot to unpack here. I am worried I am simply not intelligent enough for this album, but I’ll have to power through. I really liked the lyrics. That was some good writing right there. I don’t think I liked any other aspect of it. The ending was scary. I think she has a good voice, though.

Shameika: Okay, I really liked this song. Again, the lyrics are super good. The piano is super fun.

Fetch The Bolt Cutters: Title track! Not much singing in this song, it’s more like slam poetry. She’s an amazing writer, and the song was good. I just don’t think I would put it on a lot because there’s a lack of music lol. I like her dog barking at the end.

Under The Table: Dude, this song was really good. I liked it so much. It just got better as it went on. I love the message. I think it paints a funny visual of her going off on someone at a restaurant. Good song.

Relay: I liked this song too. I think I’m really getting into Fiona’s vibes. She’s very poetic and also pretty angry in this song.

Rack of His: I think this is a breakup song. I literally have no idea what is going on but I’m liking it. She sounded mad again, but less mad than before. So that’s good, I guess. This song is pretty good.

Newspaper: Definitely against the man. I’m not sure which man, and I’m also not sure who she is talking to. It was a good song though. She sounded angry and disappointed, but understanding, too. She’s just a good storyteller, what can I say?

Ladies: I’m feeling this. When she mentions the dress in the closet. How interesting. I want to know all about her life. And I hope she’s doing okay.

Heavy Balloon: Her voice in this song is powerful, man. I love it. And her use of similes. I could die. Never have I ever heard someone compare themselves to peas and beans in such a powerful way. This song is so good. And it’s pretty quick compared to all her five minute songs on this album.

Cosmonauts: These songs just keep on getting better. This one is kind of sweet. A little bit. It’s also pretty blunt and very realistic, but I’ll take it. I loved the build in this song. And the chorus is super catchy. Fiona Apple is lowkey the best.

For Her: Yo. I gasped. This song went hard. Lyrically. And there were like three switch ups. Fantastic. I don’t want to spoil the surprise.

Drumset: Wow. Why are all these songs so good? This is a breakup song, but it doesn’t sound that angry. I just want to know what Miss Fiona has been through. I need some answers.

On I Go: Last song. It was good and I’m not surprised. I am so happy I listened to this album. I’ve never heard anything like it, but it was phenomenal.
