Electra Heart by Marina and the Diamonds Review

Updated: Jun 1, 2022

This album is iconic. There’s no other way to put it. I cannot wait to review it. You guys should just know I already like it. I’ve just never gone in and “analyzed.” Let’s get into it.

Bubblegum Bitch: Wow. An intro. I love how it’s kind of punk. It’s really cool. I love the lyrics of this song. It’s so quick and fun. I want to live like this song. 10/10.

Primadonna: I cannot express to you how much I love this song. It’s such a fun anthem about wanting material things and blah blah blah, but then you really listen to the lyrics and it’s kind of sad. I love the dance beat behind the verses and then the stripped down chorus. It’s really cool. And then she goes hard at the end and I appreciate it so much.

Lies: Sad. The lyrics to this are sad. But very real. Neither parties want to admit that the relationship is working out even though it’s going really bad. This song goes hard as well. Her voice is so amazing. How does someone even sing like that? Idk man.

Homewrecker: This song is cool. It’s not my favorite because the chorus just doesn’t do it for me. It’s still pretty iconic. I like the speaking verses. That’s interesting.

Starring Role: This song is so good. It’s really sad, but you also don’t really feel bad for her either. She’s really good at playing a victim and a villain. I love the pre chorus so much. Especially the first one. She really went off. This song is so classic.

The State of Dreaming: I used to not like this song but now it’s top tier. The lyrics are so depressing. You can see how delusional she is. It’s a really cool song. It changes up a lot. It really grew on me.

Power & Control: I like the dramatic piano intro. It makes me feel anxious. I don’t like this song that much. I don’t hate it, it’s just kind of boring. It’s very repetitive and not interesting enough. It is a really good, dramatic sounding song though.

Sex Yeah: This song is so good. I love the lyrics. Her voice sounds great. You can dance and sing along. It’s pretty perfect. And what a message.

Teen Idle: This song is wild. She really gets deep on it. It makes me feel kind of sad, but the music doesn’t support those feelings. Cry dancing. The lyrics are the highlight of this song. The sound is interesting but not the best.

Valley of the Dolls: People don’t like this song. I don’t know why or how. It’s pretty chill, but the music is so cool and creepy. And the lyrics go off. And the chorus is kind of it. That’s it.

Hypocrates: I don’t know about this one. It seems out of place. I don’t think it belongs on this album. It's a very 2000s teen movie type song. I don’t hate it, it just seems so wrong here.

How to Be a Heartbreaker: Everyone knows this song. It’s so fun. She’s just telling you the rules. I love how much fun this song is though. It’s a good time.

Radioactive: The verses of this song go off. They sound really good. And then the chorus hits and I’m so bored. It’s nothing special. I don’t like it. Disappointing.

Fear and Loathing: This is a good closer. It wraps everything up. It signifies growth. Happy for her. I like the vibe of this song. It makes you feel better but it’s still kinda sad. Very reflective.

This was no surprise to me. This is a really good pop album. Kind of underrated. I wish more people had listened to it. It deserved it. Her voice is really good and not many people sound like it right now. This album gets a 8.21/10. bye
