I used to have this album on repeat in middle school. I actually saw Melanie’s season on The Voice and was a fan of her, so I was excited to see this album when it came out. I stopped caring for a long time, but I decided to revisit it. Let’s get into it.
Cry Baby: This song is kind of repetitive. I don’t really vibe with it. The swearing seems really forced, and I really really don’t like the bridge. It’s not for me.
Dollhouse: This song was cool when it came out, but it’s a little stale now. I don’t hate it. It really started something. I just think it’s kind of lame.
Sippy Cup: Here we go. This song is really cool. Interesting lyrics. Cool word choice and word play. I love the hip hop influence in it. Overall, good song. I feel like it’s slept on.
Carousel: I’ve never been a huge fan of this song. It’s too long and boring. I only like the one part after the first chorus or verse or whatever, when it has that cool instrumental. Other than that, no thanks.
Alphabet Boy: I like this song. I think it’s cool how she sings with the same letter. I like the story. It’s a good powerful song. I really like the steel drum you can hear in the second verse. It really adds a lot to the track.
Soap: This song is fine. It’d be really good if it didn’t have the stupid bubble noises in it. I think it cheapens the song a lot. Other than that, it’s pretty good. I really like the pretty strings at the end of the song. It makes me kind of emotional.
Training Wheels: I like that she has a sweet song on the album. Even though there’s hidden meanings behind it and the relationship sounds a little toxic. The song is a little boring, and I’m not a fan of the bridge.
Pity Party: This song is so fun. I love it. Everyone was obsessed with this song. It’s really good. And catchy. And I love the scream in the bridge.
Tag, You're It: This song is creepy. It describes a kidnapping, and the lyrics are pretty dark. I think it’s a really good song. I love how upset she sounds during the last chorus, and the outro music is really cool.
Milk and Cookies: This is the sequel to Tag, You’re It. It’s not as good. I think the lyrics are kind of bland, and the tune isn’t anything special either. It’s a pretty mediocre song.
Pacify Her: I love this song. It’s so cool sounding. The voice effects she uses in the chorus blow my mind still. I think this is her best song.
Mrs. Potato Head: I really don’t vibe with this song. It’s way too repetitive. And it’s way too long to be like that. She has playful word choice, which I appreciate, but that’s about it.
Mad Hatter: This song is chaotic, but it’s supposed to be. I like it. I think it’s a strong track. It doesn’t sound like the rest of the album, but I still think it’s good.
Play Date: I love this song. Glad it’s making a comeback on TikTok. I love how she swears in this song. It’s a little but risky, but I like it. And the switch up at the end really gets a good point across.
Teddy Bear: This song is pretty cool. The music and her voice sound really nice on the track. The lyrics are the downfall. It’s pretty mediocre compared to the rest of the songs. But it’s nice to listen to every now and then.
Cake: I love this song. Whatever instrument that is at the beginning. I love it. The lyrics are so fun. I love the bridge. Solid song.
Final Ranking:
Pacify Her
Tag, You’re It
Cake
Sippy Cup
Play Date
Pity Party
Alphabet Boy
Mad Hatter
Soap
Teddy Bear
Training Wheels
Dollhouse
Carousel
Cry Baby
Milk and Cookies
Mrs. Potato Head
This album was pretty good. I like how she really stuck to the concept she created. I think the whole childlike aesthetic for it is pretty cool. Her voice is pretty, and most of the songs are good. It gets a 6.97/10. bye
